August Wilson’s 4 B’s part 4- Romare Bearden

Dear All,

This blog post offers you a  painting by Romare Bearden titled “Mill Hand’s Lunch Bucket.” It has always been Wilson’s claim that this painting was the  inspirational spark that led to  JOE TURNER’S COME AND GONE.

Romare Bearden is one of the most revered African American artists in history.  The web is more than replete with websites dedicated to his life and works.  I urge you to check them out.  For our purposes, though, please have a good hard look at this painting/collage, and pay extra attention to the proportions of the figures depicted therein.  You will, of course, see that many details in this painting resurface in Bynum and Herald’s visions.
